The drive from Jeddah to Makkah al Mukarramah takes about 1 hour (85 Km approx), and the drive from Makkah al Mukarramah to Madinah al Munawara takes about 4 hours (450 Km approx).
You'll also get to see a variety of different landscapes, from the mountains of the Hijaz to the desert plains of the Empty Quarter.
You'll also have the opportunity to stop at small villages and towns along the way, where you can meet the locals and learn about their way of life.
When on Umrah, traveling by road is the most convenient way to travel from Jeddah airport directly to the holy city of Makkah.
If you are traveling from the holy city of Madinah al Munawara to Makkah al Mukarramah, Dhu'l-Hulayfah (Dhu'l-Hulayfah is the Meeqat for those who live in Madinah and for those traveling to Makkah al Mukarramah from Madinah), is about 9 kilometers from Madinah giving you an opportunity to prepare for your Umrah immediately after you start from Madinah, You can get into the state of ihram here.
There are Buses also available between these cities for Umrah pilgrims.
You can travel by train

Stations location in Makkah and Medina?
The Makkah Haramain Highspeed Train station is located about a 10-15 minute taxi drive from the Haram Sharif.
The Madinah Haramain train station is located about 20-25 minutes from Masjid Al Nabawi.
Stop at a Meeqat?
When traveling by train please note that it doesn’t stop at a Meeqat, if you are traveling for Umrah from Madinah to Makkah you must ensure that you are already in the state of ihram and have your intentions from before or while on the train.
